In its aim to Make AR Shopping a Reality, Snap Acquires Another Company

Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, is going all out to make AR shopping a reality.

To achieve its mission, the company has acquired Vertebrae. It is a company that offers brands to create 3D versions of their products.

There won't be any changes to Vertebrae's core team of 50 people as they will continue to work for the company and serve their existing customers.

Snap believes that using Vertebrae, companies can create 3D versions of their goods, which shoppers can potentially buy from Snapchat’s app itself.

Snap did not disclose the exact amount it paid for the acquisition of Vertebrae. But, it is likely to be far smaller than its $500 million acquisition of WaveOptics.

One of the leading players in the global social media scene, Snapchat, has already done some early tests when it comes to AR Shopping.

Gucci joined hands with Snapchat to create an AR shopping experiment where Gucci created 3D versions of their limited edition shoes.

Under the experiment, Snapchat users were able to try on these 3D pairs of shoes.

The outcome of the experiment was encouraging as it proved that users are more likely to purchase a product once they interact with a 3D version of it.

With Another $100 Million Funding, Path Robotics' Total Funding Touches $171 Million

Path Robotics has raised a massive $100 million in its Series C funding round.

It is even more impressive considering that just two and half months back, in May, the company raised $56 million in Series B funding round.

Tiger Global, Silicon Valley Bank, and an existing investor participated in Path Robotics' Series C funding round.

With a successful Series C funding round of $100 million, Path Robotics has so far raised $171 million in venture capital.

The welding space is the key market for Path Robotics targets, and it usually cites high demand for skilled welders as its primary motivation to focus on robotics.

The robotics company has quoted a study from the American Welding Society multiple times saying that the United States alone will see a shortage of 400,0000 skilled welders by 2024.

But, it doesn't mean that Path Robotics is limiting itself to welding alone. After all, the market for robots is booming and will continue to grow.

A recent market research report states that the global market for industrial robots will touch $24.5 billion by 2025.

Whatsapp Makes Update to its Group Call Feature

Pandemic had led to explosive growth in the usage of digital communication tools like Whatsapp.

With the pandemic still wreaking havoc globally, people continue to rely on tools like Whatsapp to remain in touch with friends and family.

One feature that has remained the highlight of digital communication amid the pandemic in 2021 is the group audio chat feature.

Let’s take Clubhouse’s example. After all, it has become a major name in the group audio chat space.

Clubhouse currently has a massive 10 million weekly active users, whereas, in December 2020, they had merely 600,000 weekly users. It shows the demand for the group audio chat feature.

Now, Whatsapp has decided to join the trend by launching a joinable call feature while remaining committed to its privacy-first principle.

Whatsapp has perfectly explained the new feature in a blog post:

"Joinable calls reduce the burden of answering a group call as it starts, and bring the spontaneity and ease of in-person conversations to the group calling on WhatsApp. Some of the best conversations happen when you least expect it. Now, if someone in your group misses a call when the phone rings, they can still join whenever they like. You can also drop-off and re-join so long as the call is still ongoing."

Jeff Bezos is now Officially the Wealthiest man Ever to Visit the Space

After receiving the coveted title of the wealthiest person in the world, Jeff Bezos gains another title.

With Blue Origin launching him onto its spaceflight, Jeff Bezos has now become the wealthiest person to visit space.

On Tuesday, Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos' company launched Bezos, his brother, and the oldest and youngest person ever to have flown in space, on its first crewed New Shepard rocket.

Achieving three times the speed of sound, the capsule carrying the Blue Origin Crew reached 80 kilometers up from the surface, the distance from where the edge of the space begins.

The capsule returned and landed using parachutes after the Blue Origin crew remained in microgravity for a couple of minutes.

With this successful launch to space, Blue Origin has now become a major player in the private spaceflight market, competing against the likes of Virgin Galactic and SpaceX.
