As the metaverse craze continues to grow, more and more companies are getting on board with having digital equivalents in their product list.

Nike is one of the latest companies to join the metaverse club by buying a virtual shoe company that specializes in NFTs and sneakers for the metaverse.

The leading shoemaker has acquired RTFKT, a leading company that leverages cutting-edge innovation to deliver next-generation collectibles that merge culture and gaming.

In a post, Nike’s president and CEO John Donahoe said, “This acquisition is another step that accelerates Nike’s digital transformation and allows us to serve athletes and creators at the intersection of sport, creativity, gaming and culture.”

“We’re acquiring a very talented team of creators with an authentic and connected brand. Our plan is to invest in the RTFKT brand, serve and grow their innovative and creative community and extend Nike’s digital footprint and capabilities,” he added.

Although Nike did not disclose the terms of the deal, it has positioned RTFKT’s lightning bolt-style logo alongside its own iconic swoosh, Jumpman, and Converse marks.
